‘And I did not speak out’

By Dave Ameling, Ossian

I tend to view today’s political scene through a long-term and wide view. All too many take the short and narrow view. Their view leads to major problems down the road. Take today’s “but the eggs” view. We will pay for that over the next four years.

Seeing that, I took the liberty of changing Pastor Martin Niemoller’s 1946, postwar speech he used to castigate/shame the German people for their, and his, complicity in World War II regarding Jews, gypsies, Romanians, clergy, political opponents, etc. All these peoples were sent to Auschwitz, Dachau, Sobibor, Buchenwald and other “work” camps, never to return!

Use the internet to read the original speech. It is chilling when compared to todays’ political scene. Short term, today’s leaders are setting up camps in Guantanomo. Long-term, where are the next “camps?” And who is in them?

Read on:

First, they came for the unionists, 2017-plus,
and I did not speak out
because I was not a unionist.

Then they came for the undocumented immigrants, decades,
and I did not speak out
because I was not an undocumented immigrant.

Then they came for the pro-abortion liberals, decades,
and I did not speak out
because I was not a pro-abortion liberal.

Then they came for the LGBTQs, decade,
and I did not speak out
because I was not an LGBTQ.

Then they came for the teachers, five years,
and I did not speak out
because I was not a teacher.

Then they came for the libraries, five years,
and I did not speak out
because I do not use the libraries.

Then they came for the DEI hires, three years,
and I did not speak out
because I was not a DEI hire.

Then they came for me,
next year,
and there was no one left
to speak for me.

My apologies to pastor Martin Niemoller
