Sandra J. Scheib-Ostwinkle, 72, of Decorah, passed away Saturday evening, Oct. 13, 2018, at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. Memorial services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah, with Pastor Amy Larson officiating. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, one hour before the service, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Sandra Jean (Mattson) Scheib-Ostwinkle was born Sept. 8, 1946, in Austin, Minn., the daughter of Stewart and Shirley (Wolfe) Mattson. She graduated from Austin High School with the class of 1964, and then she graduated from Iowa State University in 1968 with her B.A. degree to become a dietitian.
Sandra worked at the Maquoketa Hospital, the Mental Health Institute in Clarinda, and then went to work for the governor’s office in Des Moines in the budget and planning office. Later she became the business manager and associate warden at Iowa Correctional Facilities in Fort Dodge, then in Mount Pleasant, retiring in 2008.
She was married to Dennis Ostwinkle May 19, 2009, in Washington. Upon his retirement, they moved to Decorah.
Sandra is survived by her husband Dennis; her three sons and their families: Jay Scheib (Laine Rettmer) of Boston, Mass., Brad (Angie) Scheib, Blake, Bennett and Brenna of Plymouth, Minn. and Tim (Rachel) Scheib, McKenna, Raegan, Kamryn, Mattson and Renze of Ankeny; one brother, Jim (Stacy) Mattson of Welch, Minn.; three brothers-in-law, Michael (Jayne) Ostwinkle, Dean (Deb) Ostwinkle and Darryl Ostwinkle, and one sister-in-law, Julie Ostwinkle, all of Worthington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Andrea, Sept. 26, 1987; brother-in-law, Ron Ostwinkle; and sister-in-law, Juanita Ostwinkle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to American Cancer Society (Cedar Rapids, IA Office, 4080 First Ave NE Suite No. 101, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402) or Make-A-Wish Foundation of America (Make-A-Wish Iowa, 3009 100th Street, Urbandale, IA 50322-3220).
