Michael Poshusta, 75, of Ridgeway, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2019 at his home in Ridgeway after a tough battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial was at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with Rev. Robert Gross officiating. Organist was Jeanette Dietzenbach. Cantor was Dan Silhacek. The St. Wenceslaus Choir sang. Hymns were “Here I am, Lord,” “Gift of Finest Wheat,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “Be Not Afraid” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Lectors were Angel Murphy and Kelsey Kappes. Offertory gift bearers were Sydney Poshusta, Lilli and Jack Tippy. Eucharistic ministers were Althea Murphy, Sherry Bouska and Helen Pinter. Casket bearers were Brad Stevenson, Chuck Eaton, Steve Poshusta, Dean Kuhn, Ron Langreck, Kaleb Langreck. Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, in Spillville. Arrangements were handled by Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Decorah.
Michael Wilmer Poshusta was born June 6, 1943, to Wilmer and Mildred (Frana) Poshusta in Decorah. He graduated in 1961 from South Winneshiek High School.
Mike married Dorothy June 15, 1985, at the Orleans Lutheran Church north of Ridgeway.Together they owned and operated the Kozy Korner in Rideway from 1985-2000. Mike then worked at Camcar Engineering in Decorah where he retired in 2009.
Mike and Dorothy celebrated 25 years of marriage right before Dorothy passed away in 2010. Mike enjoyed fishing, watching westerns, listening to polka music and tuning into “Hee Haw” every Sunday at 8 p.m. His love was restoring his Ford tractors, while sharing a story with anyone with an open ear, drinking a few Busch lights and laughing at his own jokes.
Mike is survived by his son, Todd (Kim) Poshusta and family, Shakopee, Minn.; two daughters, Tami (Sam) Tippy and family, Avon, Ohio and Traci (Marvin) Schmitt and family, Waucoma; step children: Dean Kuhn and family, Cresco, Steve (Stephanie) Kuhn and family, Cresco and Julie (Ron) Langreck and family, Cresco; his two sisters, Althea (James) Murphy, Calmar and Sally (Robert) Davis, Theodore, Ala.; brothers, Randy (Lois) Poshusta, Calmar and Steve (Nancy) Poshusta, Calmar; in laws: Lorraine Polansky, Spillville, Cathy (Ron) Hageman, Calmar, Tom (Kay) Flaherty Lourdes and Bob Flaherty, Lourdes.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents, Wilmer and Mildred Poshusta; in-laws, John and Mildred Flaherty; brother-in law, Edward Polansky; sister-in-law, Janet Flaherty.
