Michael Daniel Powers

Michael Daniel Powers, 48, of West Union, (formerly of Decorah) passed away Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Services were at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Decorah Lutheran Church, Decorah, with Rev. Peter Kowitz officiating. Music was performed by Mary Davis. Hymns were “Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Broken,” “On Eagle’s Wings” and “How Great Thou Art.” Honorary casket bearers were Michael’s brothers and sisters. Casket bearers were Mitchell Bruns, Brandon Bruns, Ben Leibold, Ben Horsefall, Daryl Farley, Brian Arthur and Louis Neuzil.

Mike was born April 3, 1972, the son of Roger and Mary (Lutzow) Powers in Rockford, Ill. Mike moved to Missouri in 1996. He married Bridgette Rhynes and they later divorced. Together they had two children, Brandan and Skylena. He married Darcy Cook May 10, 2007. Mike worked at a nursing home and McDonalds in Illinois. Then moved to Missouri in 1996 and he worked at Missouri Forge, the Fire Dept., a lumber yard, and drove a truck. They then moved to Iowa in 2002, where he worked at a McDonalds, Subway, Walmart,and a car dealership. Mike enjoyed playing cards and being an ordained minister since 2008. He loved going to the Family Table Restaurant and Ruby’s Restaurant for coffee with his “ladies.” Mike really enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved spending time with his grandson, Easton and his goddaughter, Nakoma.

Mike is survived by his wife, Darcy, of West Union; his five children: Brandan Powers, Doniphan, Mo.; Skylena Powers, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; Mitchell (Isabella Streif) Bruns, Elgin; Karissa (Brian Arthur) Bruns, Oelwein; Brandon Bruns, Decorah; grandson, Easton Bruns; his mom, Mary Powers, Charles City; father-in-law, Ned Krambeer, Decorah; brothers: Paul (Christina) Worzella, Martinsville, Ind., Kathy (Mike) Plumb, Charles City, Paul (Bobbie Jo) Powers, New Hampton; brothers and sisters-in-law: Dave (Sharon) Cook, Oelwein, Dawn (Randy) Teslow, Ossian, Darrell Cook, Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Darwin ”Darby” (Diane) Cook, Ossian, Denise (Mike) Jones, Cresco, Darla (Kevin) Wenthold, Ossian; step-brother-in law, Dewayne (Jeannette) Wenthold, Kalispell, Mont.; step-sisters-in-law: Cathy Peterson, Mabel, Minn., Diane Wilder, Mabel, Minn., Sandy (Dan) Miller, Port Angeles, Wash.; along with many nieces and nephews and “special daughter,” Rylee Upton.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Roger Powers; mother-in-law, Peg Krambeer; father and mother-in-law, Orval and Anna Cook; grandparents: Earl and Anna Lutzow; Richard and Catherine Powers; aunts: Ruthie Gibbons, Virginia Hammer and Patty Hammond; uncle, Charles Lutzow; brother-in-law, Augie Shindelar.
