Mary Catherine Riha

Mary Catherine Riha, 89, of Cresco, died peacefully Friday, Jan. 10, 2020, at Evans Memorial Home of Cresco. A Funeral mass was at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, with Father Jacob Rouse officiating. Visitation was at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home Thursday, Jan. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m., and also one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Burial will be at a later date in June. Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home assisted the family.

Mary Riha was born Nov. 28, 1930, to Roy and Alma (Schissel) McEnaney in Waucoma. Mary was united in marriage to Matthias Riha Oct. 3, 1953, in Waucoma. She spent many years on the family farm with her husband and was a wonderful mother. She made very good dandelion and beet wines and was a wonderful cook. Mary worked as an RN and was even a charge nurse at Evans Memorial during her career. She loved playing cards and certainly did not like losing. She would travel to area assisted living facilities and nursing homes in the area to play cards with the residents. She enjoyed going to the casino as well as many trips to sunny Florida where her sons gave her an unforgettable ride in a motorcycle sidecar. Mary liked to spend her afternoons watching her soaps, specifically As The World Turns and Days of Our Lives. She rarely missed a Saturday Mass, and would be there promptly at 3 p.m. every Saturday. Mary was also an avid fan of Johnny Cash. She loved her family tremendously. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her children: Kevin (Holly) Riha of Waseca, Minn., Steven Riha of Cresco, Patrick (Ruth) Riha of Cresco, Lisa (David) Fernandez-Baca of Ames; grandchildren: Kelsey Riha, Lauren Riha, Daniel Riha, Andrew (Leah) Riha, Brandon (Megan) Riha, Bryan Riha, Amanda (Robert) Fitch, Erica (John) Reynolds, Melissa (Bruce) Muschick, Christopher (Fiance Hannah) Mayberry, and Nicholas (Rhydian) Mayberry; great-grandchildren: Bryce Breeggemann, Rhory Carrison, Malikai Carrison, Tucker Carrison, Julian Riha, Miguel Riha, Amelie Riha, Emma Riha, Jack Riha, Will Riha; brother Gerald (Bev) McEnaney of Decorah; sisters, Therese Corbett of St. Helena, Calif., and Maureen (Gerald ) Kerian of Winters, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Matthias, son Brian Riha, daughter Linda Riha, and brother John McEnaney.
