Marlys Elaine (Erickson) Bjerke age 93, of Spring Grove, Minn., passed on Nov. 3, 2022 at Tweeten CareCenter in Spring Grove, Minn.
Marlys was born Sept. 2, 1929, to Earl and Lenna (Young) Erickson in Decorah, Iowa. She was baptized at Decorah Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Locust. She attended Springwater country school and graduated from Decorah High School.
She married Marland Bjerke on Feb. 6, 1949. Her life was filled with raising her five sons and workingvarious local jobs at grocery stores, Northern Engraving, and Tweeten Care Center. Her pride and joy wereher grandchildren whom she cared for frequently and attended every school event that was possible. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Sons of Norway. In retirement, she and Marland traveled the United States and Canada via bus tours and regularly delivered Meals on Wheels to members of the community. Marlys was a thoughtful and caring person and will be deeply missed by her friends and family.
Marlys is survived by her children, Steven (Vickie), David (Jane), Brian (Leah), and Eric (Kristin). She is also survived by grandchildren, Kelly Patton, Chad (Jamie), Brad (Mollee), Christopher (Rachel),Nicholas (Jill), Joshua (Jamie), Jamie (Eric) Bjerke-Thesing, Kai and Reid Bjerke, several great-grandchildrenand a brother-in-law, Roger (Darlene) Bjerke.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years, her son Gary, grandson Jason, great-granddaughter Clara, sister Lois (Walter) Hovey, brother Roger (Elaine) Erickson as well as brothers-In-law Jerome (Myrle) and Herbert Bjerke and a sister-in-law Mavis Solem.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 7, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Pastor Elizabeth Hermeier will officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Roble Funeral Home of Spring Grove is assisting the family with arrangements.
