Mark Quandahl

Mark Quandahl, 67, of Decorah, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018, at his home, north of Decorah. Services were at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 10, at Stone Ridge Community Church in Decorah, with Pastor Ed Krawczyk officiating. Accompanist was Johanna Morriss. Soloist was Mary Marx. Songs were “Don’t Blink” (by Kenny Chesney), “How Great thou Art” (by Mary Marx) and “I’ll Fly Away” (by Allison Krauss). Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Decorah. Casket bearers were Jarrod Dawley, Kyle Falck, Gerald Folstad, Darrel Lentner, Brian “Buck” Towne and Lee Pecinovsky. Interment was at Springwater Cemetery in Decorah.

Mark Randall Quandahl was born May 13, 1951, the son of Clyde and Edna (Knoke) Quandahl, in Decorah. He attended country school and graduated from North Winneshiek High School in 1969. Mark married Marilyn Pecinovsky Sept. 2, 1977, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. He worked for John Deere in Waterloo until moving back to Decorah in 1979 to the family farm. He farmed with his father as well as driving grain truck and bartending at the Nob Hill Supper Club. In 2002, Mark went to work for Mark Carolan Construction where he worked up until his passing. Mark was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He also enjoyed camping, playing cards, watching the Packers and Cubs and playing golf. He and Marilyn enjoyed challenging each other at Jeopardy and “Who wants to be a millionaire.” His biggest joy was spending time with family and friends and especially his two grandsons. Mark was an active member of the Stone Ridge Community Church in Decorah.

Mark is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son, Jesse (Heather) Quandahl, Decorah; grandchildren, Hunter and Chase Quandahl; brother-in-law, Roger Pecinovsky, Ennis, Texas; three sisters-in-law: Becky Quandahl, Corrinth, Texas; Margaret Hruska, Protivin; and Madonna (Mike) Lasack, Martelle; along with many nieces and nephews.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Edna (Knoke) Quandahl; son, Thomas in 2001; brother, Jerry Quandahl, in 2017; sister, in infancy, Jean; father and mother-in-law, William L. and Evelyn Pecinovsky; brother-in-law, Jim Hruska, in 2017.
