Marjorie R. Pearson, 97, of Decorah, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, at Barthell O.E.S. Home in Decorah. Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah, with Rev. Chad Huebner officiating. Burial is in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah in the spring. Visitation begins at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, one hour before the service, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Casket bearers are David Moore, Randall Copeman, Charles W. Mooty III, Donovan Drenth, Eric Pearson and Frederick Delphey.

Marjorie Ruth (Mooty) Pearson was born July 1, 1921, the daughter of Charles Mooty and Emma (Cummings) Mooty at the family farmhouse near Grundy Center.

Marjorie attended school in Grundy Center, and graduated from high school in 1937, at the age of 16. Marjorie became a teacher and worked in a one-room school house near Lincoln Center.

In 1941 Marjorie met Floyd Pearson, who was employed at the Grundy County courthouse. Floyd entered military service in February of 1943 and returned to Marjorie in 1946. Marjorie was united in marriage with Floyd Sevelious Pearson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua July 1, 1946. To this union four children were born: Connie, Karen, Kent and Keith. loyd earned a law degree in September of 1948 and the couple moved to Decorah, where they remained for the rest of their lives.

Marjorie was a homemaker and performed volunteer work. She served as a care advocate at the Barthell Order of Eastern Star Home and volunteered at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital. Marjorie was involved in many local organizations including the Order of the Eastern Star (50-year member), the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, the American Legion Auxiliary, First Lutheran Church and Nordic Fest activities. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family at their cabin on the Mississippi River.

Marjorie is survived by her two sons, Kent of Stillwater, Minn. and Keith (Agnes) of Eagan, Minn.; her grandson, Todd Olson, of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Evelyn Copeman, of Grundy Center; her brother-in-law, Kermit Pearson, of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd, April 17, 2011; two daughters, Connie (Matt) Olson and Karen Pearson; two sisters, Lois Mooty and Alice (Michael) Lovell; a brother, Charles “Bud” (Helene) Mooty; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Robert) Sweeney and Gloria Pearson; and a brother-in-law, Archie Copeman.
