Judy Ott, 67, of Fort Atkinson, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, with Rev. Aaron Junge officiating. Lector was Deacon Jim Zajicek. Eucharistic ministers were Laure Rausch, Jim Zajicek, Ann Herold and Leon Kipp. Organist was Jeanette Dietzenbach. Soloists were Lynette Wheeler and Kaylee Nicoll. St. John’s Choir also sang. Hymns were “Here I am Lord,” “Precious Lord Take My Hand,” “On Eagles Wings,” “ Goin Home” and “How Great Thou Art.” Offertory gift bearers were Judy’s granddaughters: Kaylee Nicoll, Olivia Ott, Madelyn Ott and Emersyn Ott. Casket bearers were Kyle Nicoll, Jesse Leuenberger, Aaron Schmitt, Chris Huinker, Darin Kleve and Mark Bohach. Interment was at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Fort Atkinson. Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel, Fort Atkinson.

Judy was born Judith Agnes Schmitt Oct. 17, 1950, to Linus and Veronica (Winter) Schmitt in Decorah. She attended St. John’s Catholic School in Fort Atkinson and graduated from Turkey Valley High School in 1968. She studied business at Mankato Community College. She married Roger Ott Aug. 14, 1971, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, and moved to the farm that they enjoyed together for 47 years. Judy worked at Winneshiek Medical Center for 28 years and was a Winneshiek County first responder for 35 years. In recent years, she worked at the Sunflower Daycare in Decorah and found her true passion working for the Christ Our Hope Parish Cluster Office. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting and sewing and many were privileged to receive her beautiful work. She was an avid cyclist and participated in RAGBRAI for 13 years, making numerous friends along the way. Judy’s most cherished time was spent with her children and grandchildren.

Judy is survived by her husband, Roger; her two sons, Keith (Kelli) Ott of Ankeny; Kevin Ott of Cary, N.C.; her daughter, Staci (Terry) Nicoll of Cresco; grandchildren: Madelyn and Emersyn Ott; Olivia Ott; Kyle, Collin, and Kaylee Nicoll; siblings: Sue (Al) Blong, Fort Atkinson; Dale (Norine) Schmitt, Bernard; and Gladys (Marvin) Huinker, Calmar; sister-in-law, Linda Schmitt, Calmar; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Linus and Veronica Schmitt; father and mother-in-law, Leo and Catherine Ott; brothers, Gary Schmitt and Daryl Schmitt; sister-in-law, Doris Ott; brothers: Joseph, George, and Patrick, all in infancy.
