Gerald “Jerry” Lien

Gerald “Jerry” Duane Lien, born February 11, 1941, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of heart failure.
Jerry was born in Decorah, Iowa and graduated from Decorah High School in 1959.
He went into the Army in 1961-1964 and was stationed at Butzbach, Germany. He developed a love for all things German and his Norwegian ancestry. He married Maryke Zwingel, (from Nuremberg) in Decorah in May 1966.They were divorced in 1982.
Jerry worked at John Deere Waterloo from 1961-1998. Many thanks to Joyce Redman for being his companion for over 20 years and his niece Lynn Anders for supporting his needs late in life.
Jerry is survived by his son, Brandon Lien (Cedar Falls), and daughter Renate Lien (Woburn, Mass.), and two grandchildren, Jake Lien and Austin Lien.
Jerry is survived by a sister, Barb Burreson of Elk Run and a sister Ethel Deck of Cedar Rapids.
Proceeded in death by his parents Melvin and Mabel Berthina (Blekeberg) Lien, one sister ; Lorraine Scholl (Decorah) and two brothers ; Vernon Lien of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Allen Lien of Decorah, Iowa.
Services will take place Monday, Aug. 15, at First Lutheran Church with a visitation from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be at Phelps Cemetery, Decorah, following the service (approx. 1:30 p.m.).
