Gene A. Espe of Port Orange, Fla., passed away on April 12, 2021 at Halifax Health-Hospice Ormond Beach Care Center at the age of 76. He was born Jan. 22, 1945 in Decorah, to Robert E. and Hazel Espe. He proudly served in the US Navy after graduating from high school in 1963. After the Navy, he moved to Daytona Beach, Fla., area and found it to be his home.
Gene is survived by his brother Ed (Debbie) Espe of Decorah, sister-in-law, LeAnn Espe of Ackley, IA, sisters Ardy Steine of
De Witt, IA and Yvonne (Bill) Cary of Portland, OR, 1 Aunt, Julia Soland of Decorah, IA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Roger Espe, brother-law Ken Steine, nephew Troy Martin and the love of his life, Patty.
Special thanks to Gene’s friends, Greg and Edie Mendenhall who cared for Gene when he became ill this past year and visited him daily in Hospice. Thanks also to all the Hospice workers who took care of our brother.
Per his request there will be no funeral service. He will be laid to rest at the beautiful Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
