Fielden James Monroe

Fielden James Monroe, 87 of Ossian, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian. He was born Dec. 23, 1935 and baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. Fielden attended school in Castalia.

On Sept. 25, 1955 Fielden was united in marriage with Harriet Myrtle Bachtell at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Four children were born to this union. Fielden farmed in the Castalia area, then worked as a carpenter for a year and then went to work for Sara Lee for many years until he retired.

Surviving Fielden are his wife, Harriet Monroe of Ossian; his children, Scott (Janet) Monroe of Ossian, Susan (Pete) Blue of Fredericksburg, Stanley (Nancy) Monroe of Vine Grove, N.Y., and Sheldon (Dawn) Monroe of Terrell, N.C.; eight grandchildren: Nicole Ondrashek, Darin Monroe, Ryan Monroe, Joel Martin, Heather Bryan, Brandon Hoover, Zachery Monroe and Dylan Monroe; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rose Keller.

Preceding Fielden in death were his parents, Albert and Mari Monroe; and his eight siblings: Alvin, Bernold, Curtis, Bernita, Virgil, Carroll, Marlene and Forrest.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Ossian.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. April 1 at Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Ossian,  with Rev. Amanda Monroe and Rev. Daryl Thompson as the officiants. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Castalia, Iowa

Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Ossian is assisting the family with services.
