Eunice Catherine Anderson, 99, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. A funeral service celebrating her near century of life was at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with Rev. Chad Huebner officiating. The family received friends at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, one hour before the service. Burial was in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco.
Eunice Catherine (Finholt) Anderson was born March 14, 1920, at the family home in Pleasant Township, Winneshiek County, the daughter of Oscar and Julia (Faldet) Finholt. She was baptized and confirmed at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. She attended Pleasant School No. 7 in Pleasant Township and graduated from Decorah High School in May of 1937.
Eunice married Marvin A. Anderson Aug. 19, 1939, at the Glenwood Lutheran Church parsonage. They were blessed with two daughters, Pamela and Linda.
The couple lived with Marvin’s parents until they moved to Burlington to work in the bomb factory during World War II. They moved to Cresco in 1946. Eunice worked as a clerk for J.C. Penney and Company in Cresco for over 15 years. She and Marvin were caretakers at Brown Silver Beach Lodge in LaPorte, Minn. from 1985 – 1990.
She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, bowling and her card club. She won the Lefsa contest at the Howard County Fair two years. She spent much time quilting for Ag Fest and for church missions. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Cresco.
Marvin passed away July 9, 2003. In 2004, Eunice moved to Decorah. Throughout her time in Decorah, Eunice was a member at First Lutheran Church.
Eunice became a resident of Aase Haugen Home in Decorah in January 2016.
Eunice is survived by her two daughters, Pamela (J. Wayne) Wicks of Decorah and Linda O’Brien of Cresco; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; two brothers, Orlando Finholt and Chester Finholt; four sisters: Cora Volding, Thelma Keefe, LaVerne Headington and Jenanne Vikre; and a son-in-law, David O’Brien.
