Elsie Timp, 85, of Calmar, died Monday, April 29, 2019, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 2, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 304 South Maryville, Calmar, with Rev. Robert Gross presiding. Burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel, 202 South Washington Street, Calmar, , and also after 10 a.m., at the church Thursday morning. Lectors were Miranda Hayek and Austin Ashbacher. Organist was Jeanette Dietzenbach. The St. Aloysius Choir sang “Be Not Afraid,” “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman,” “On Eagles Wings” and “How Great Thou Art.” Offertory gift bearers were Elsie’s grandchildren. Eucharistic ministers were Sister Patricia Tekippe, Elaine Heying and Leon Kipp. Casket bearers were Joe Timp, Bob Timp, Laura Taylor, Marge Ashbacher, Pat Timp and Dan Timp. Interment was at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery, Calmar. Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel, Calmar.
Elsie was born April 2h, 1934, to Peter and Agnes (Bohr) Heying at their home in rural Winneshiek County near Festina. She was married to Donald Timp Aug. 26, 1953, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Festina. Together they farmed near Calmar until 1989 when they moved into Calmar. To this union they were blessed with nine children. Donald passed away in November of 2000. Elsie loved bingo, cards and going to the boat. She also loved quilting and made many quilts for the grandchildren for births, graduations and weddings. In addition to being a hard-working farm wife she also worked at Wapsie, Nor-egg, Casey’s and Kwik Star throughout the years. The most important thing to Elsie was her family and felt her greatest accomplishment was raising healthy, happy kids. Elsie was proud of receiving her GED and her associate’s degree, as was her family.
Elsie is survived by her children: Joseph (Sandra) Timp, Castalia; Robert (Deb) Timp, Decorah; Laura (Howard) Taylor, Fort Atkinson; Marge (Rodney) Ashbacher, Calmar; Patrick (Becky) Timp, Sand Springs, Okla.; Daniel (Kelly) Timp, Ossian; 21 grandchildren: Jeremy (Denise) Timp, Brett (Robin) Timp, Tara (Joel) Monroe, Bryce Timp, Eric (Jill) Timp, Scott (Shannon) Timp, Andrea (Mark) Ondrashek, Miranda (Jon) Hayek, Renee (Rob) Welter, Heather (Brandon) DeSotel, Vanessa Taylor, Aaron and Austin Ashbacher, Justin, Jesikah, Heather and Kyleigh Robertson, Ethan, Parker, Addison and Blake Timp; 31 great-grandchildren: Logan, Emily, Toryn and Skylar Timp, Kelsey, Jayden, Sawyer and Riley Timp, Ashton and Lily Monroe, Lucas and Hannah Timp, Layken and London Timp, Maysa, Noah and Haylen Ondrashek, Brynlee, Brody and Brogan Hayek, Connor, Nolan, Taylor and Bennett Welter, Abagail, Olivia, Jameson, Liam, and Meredith DeSotel, Leiah and Levi Lopez; siblings and siblings-in-law: Marian Heying, Kay Humpal, Cleo (Emily) Heying, Elaine Heying Richard (Linda) Heying, Joyce (Dick)Shindelar, Marcie (Larry) Havel and Don (Carolyn) Heying.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, in 2000; daughters, Shelly and Mary Catherine; son, Michael; parents, Peter and Agnes (Bohr) Heying; great-grandchild, Hope Timp; brothers and sisters-in-law: Hugo (Lucille) Heying, Ruth (Ray) Langreck, Stanley Humpal, Rosalyn (Gene) Bodensteiner, Irvin Heying, Larry Heying, Vendolin (Rita) Timp, Dolores (Ray) Kuboushek, Seraphia (Paul) Tekippe and Arlene (Wilfred) Bohr.
