Dorothy Rude

Dorothy Rude, 80, of Decorah, died Saturday, June 20, 2015, at the Gundersen Harmony Care Center in Harmony, Minn. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25, at the Cresco Community Chapel in Cresco, with Rev. Mike Simiele officiating. Pianist is Mary Steen. Other music included “It Is Well With My Soul” (Sue Lenz), “Count Your Many Blessings”  – clarinets and “Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us” – clarinets (Samantha Quam, Rachel Lenz, Katy Rude and Sue Lenz). Hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “To God Be the Glory.” Casket bearers are Mark Lenz, Steve Quam, Nicholas Rude, David Lenz, Kyle Quam and Matt Strathman. Interment is at Phelps Cemetery in Decorah. Arrangements are being handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah.
Dorothy Jean (Hoffman) Rude was born March 31, 1935, in Decorah, the daughter of Harold and Caroline (Plear) Hoffman. Dorothy graduated from Decorah High School and attended one year at Luther College. She was married to William Rude June 26, 1955, at the Methodist Church in Decorah. They later divorced. Dorothy worked as a telephone operator for one year. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting turtles and playing the clarinet. She was an active member of the Cresco Community Chapel in Cresco and enjoyed attending the Grand Family Camp in Clear Lake. She especially enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Robert (Sharon) Rude, Coralville; Allen Rude, Decorah; Susan (Mark) Lenz, Harmony, Minn.; Karen (Steve) Quam, Decorah; grandchildren: Katy and Nicholas Rude, Cory and Darin Rude, David (friend, Brianna Olson) Lenz, Rachel Lenz, Kyle (friend, Stacey Reding) Quam, Heather (Matt) Strathman and Samantha Quam; along with three great-grandchildren: Brooke, Elijah and Lily.  
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Caroline (Plear) Hoffman; two brothers, Robert Hoffman and Harold (Mary) Hoffman Jr.
