Darleen Caskey

Darleen K. Caskey, age 99, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa died peacefully on Sept. 20, 2022 in Decorah, where she had resided the last six years.

Funeral services will take place Monday, Sept. 26, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids.There will be no visitation.

Darleen was born Oct. 25, 1922 on a farm near Glidden, Iowa to Daniel and Katherine Wenck. She attended school in Sioux Rapids, graduating in 1940. On Nov. 30, 1942, Darleen was united in marriage to Laurence Caskey in Dakota City, Neb. As life-long partners, they loved and raised their three children, Virginia, Dale and Dave.

Darleen and Laurence’s special bond continued after retiring from farming and homemaking to include the activities and hobbies they shared and enjoyed together. Their favorite past times included: visiting and traveling with family, dancing at polka fests, enjoying their grandchildren immensely and taking day trips to eat out at their favorite places. Darleen raised a huge vegetable garden and tended to her beautiful flowers.  As an excellent baker, she was widely known for delicious cinnamon rolls and desserts.

Darleen was preceded in death by her husband Laurence Caskey and son, Dale Caskey, parents Daniel and Katherine Wenck, sister Rena Waters, sister Helen Wagscel, brother Archie Westbrook, sister Marjorie Gunnerson, brother Daniel Wenck Jr., brother Kenneth Wenck, and sister Alvira Braesch.

Darleen is survived by her children, Virginia and Gerald Leidahl of Ridgeway, Dave and Joanna Caskey of Kingston, Okla. Darleen is also survived by four grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and many nieces, nephews and friends.
