Daniel Joseph Alberts passed away May 26, 2021 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wis., of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and complications of COPD.
He was born to James and Imelda (Sutton) Alberts on May 7, 1961 in Decorah. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah. Dan attended and graduated from Decorah High School in 1980. Dan began his working career with the Winneshiek County Care Facility and then spent the last 27 years working for Bruening’s Rock Products. Dan loved working outdoors, cutting wood, mowing lawns, driving trucks or anything that involved machinery. He enjoyed, hunting, fishing, NASCAR races, canoeing the beautiful Upper Iowa River, but most of all spending time with his friends in his very large and full garage in Haugen Hummel. He never said no to a beer or a conversation.
Dan was preceded in death by his father James Alberts, his sister-in-law Debra Alberts, his grandparents Irene and Freeman Alberts and Lawrence and Grace Sutton.
Dan is survived by his mother and stepfather Imelda (Alberts) Nesteby and Emmett Nesteby of Decorah; five brothers: Michael (Beth) of Albuquerque NM, Patrick (Sandy) of Lansing, IA, Timothy of Lansing, IA, Thomas of Decorah, and Eugene (Suzanne) of Onalaska, WI, and sister Rebecca of Decorah; two aunts, Dorothy Alberts and Barbara Sutton, both of Decorah; and seven nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all for the care and love from Gundersen Clinic, Winneshiek Medical Center, his friends, (especially Bill Bullerman) and his co-workers from Bruening’s Rock Products.
Visitation will be at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah on Saturday June 5, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A burial service will be held immediately following the visitation at St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery in Decorah. The Alberts Family will be gathering and telling stories at Silvercrest Golf & Country Club after interment, and all are welcome to attend and celebrate Dan’s life.
