Charles “Chuck” Jacobsen

Charles {Chuck) Jacobsen, 96, of West Union, died Friday, April 9, 2021, at Gundersen Palmer Hospital in West Union.

Chuck was born at the home farm just outside of West Union, on Feb. 11, 1925, to James and Hazel (Musser) Jacobsen. He graduated from West Union High School in 1942 with the honor of being salutatorian of his class. After graduation he farmed with his father on the family farm. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from December 1950 to December 1952.

Chuck was united in marriage with Dolores Anfinson on Dec. 3, 1955. Together they raised eight children- Kevin, Kendall, Karen, Kirk, Kerry, Kyle, Kory, and Kalen- on the family farm. He farmed all of his life on the century farm that he grew up on. Chuck loved following the St. Louis Cardinals, being an avid fan since he was nine years old. He also liked following the Iowa State Cyclones and the Green Bay Packers. Chuck played town softball and was in a bowling league in West Union for many years. He enjoyed playing ping pong with a group of friends in the West Union area. One of his greatest enjoyments was going to his grandchildren’s sporting activities. He always loved when the family came to visit, especially on holidays when all the family was together. When not able to visit in person, he enjoyed phone conversations with his family. He also liked to keep in touch with his classmates. Chuck kept up on politics and read The Wall Street Journal daily. He loved watching The Andy Griffith Show and even watched two episodes the night of his passing.

Chuck was a Township Trustee for many terms and also served on the West Union Coop Board. He was known as a soil steward and won many soil conservation awards. He was also one of the first in the area to implement strip crop farming. Chuck was a longtime member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union.

Preceding Chuck in death were his father, James Jacobsen; his mother, Hazel {Musser} Jacobsen; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elmer and Cora Anfinson; sister, Marie Jacobsen; and a son, Kalen Jacobsen.

Surviving Chuck are his wife, Dolores; children, Kevin (Linda) of St. Charles, Missouri, Kendall of West Union, Iowa, Karen (Victor) Schmitz of West Union, Iowa, Kirk (Dawn) of Clermont, Iowa, Kerry (Lisa) of Clermont, Iowa, Kyle of West Union, Iowa, and Kory {Erin) of Ridgeway, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Jacobsen of Cresco, Iowa; sister-in-law, Verna Skinner of Ossian, Iowa; nineteen grandchildren, Justin, Christopher, Erin, Ben, Katie, Nicholas, Molli, Kelli, Shannon, Darcy, Dacia, Erica, Tanner, Keana, Treyton, Alexa, Ty, Nolan, and Ella; and 11 great-grandchildren, Leia, Malin, Bentley, Iris, Bryce, Ryley, Lylah, Lauren, Kydon, Kenley, and Adam.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Monday.

Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union, with Rev. Don J. Best as the officiant.

Burial with Military Honors will be at West Union Cemetery, West Union.

Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Union, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
