Arlene Klimesh, 97, of Fort Atkinson, passed away Monday, July 29, 2019, at Wellington Place in Decorah. Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 5, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, with Rev. Aaron Junge officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Fort Atkinson, and also after 9 a.m. Monday morning at the funeral home. Lectors were Dr. Michael Carolan, Allen Klimesh and Dr. Alison Patterson. Eucharistic ministers were Roger Ott and Ann Herold. Organist was Jeanette Dietzenbach. Soloist was Lynette Wheeler. St. John’s Choir sang, and hymns were “Here I am Lord,” “Prayer of St. Francis,” “On Eagles Wings” and “Let There Be Peace on Earth.” Offertory gift bearers were Debbie Curdy, Ben Klimesh, Kim Lacy and Jack Klimesh. Casket bearers were Arlene’s grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel, Fort Atkinson.
Arlene Myrtle Taylor Klimesh was born Oct. 25, 1921, the daughter of John and Christina (Jarosh) Taylor in Spillville. Arlene attended country school and St. Wenceslaus Catholic School. She was united in marriage to Stanley Klimesh May 28, 1945, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville.
After Stanley returned from his tour of duty in the Navy during World War II, they lived in Calmar for a short period of time and then moved to Ft. Atkinson to operate a tavern. After Stan’s death in 1972, Arlene ran the tavern for two more years. She then worked at Sara Lee in New Hampton and finally at Turkey Valley School as a custodian. Arlene moved into Wellington Place Assisted Living in 2012 and after four years she moved into Wellington Place RCF until her passing.
Arlene’s survivors include one daughter, Faye (Clair) Carolan, Fort Atkinson; three sons: Mark (Cindy) Klimesh, Barcelona, Spain, Lyle (Mary Kay) Klimesh, Castle Rock, Colo.; and Joseph (Joyce) Klimesh, Omaha, Neb.; eight grandchildren: Dr. Michael Carolan (Nora), Fort Collins, Colo.; Debbie Curdy (Ryan), Kirkland, Wash.; Allen Klimesh (Jennifer), Fredericksburg, Va..; Dr. Alison Patterson (Bryce), Denver, Colo..; Nicole Klimesh Bonino (Andres), Montevideo, Uruguay; Ben Klimesh, Denver, Colo.; Kim Lacy (Landon), Kansas City, Mo.; Jack Klimesh, Omaha, Neb.; five great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Delores Struck, Cedar Rapids and Betty Shimek (Victor), Rochester, Minn..
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, John and Christina (Jarosh) Taylor; her husband, Stanley Klimesh, in 1972; twin daughters, Sharon Mae and Karen Kay Klimesh; two sisters, Angie (Louis) Loesch and Harriett (Larry) Frana; two brothers, Richard Taylor and Howard Taylor; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Camilla Taylor, Clarabelle Taylor, Ken Struck, Joseph Klimesh, Lawrence Frana, Florine and Walter Klimesh, Clarence and Pauline Malek, Angeline and Elmer Weston, Leonard and Cecilia Klimesh; and Stanley’s parents, Joseph and Albina Klimesh.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Fort Atkinson, or the Fort Atkinson Public Library.
