Winneshiek County Celebration of Life receives funds from local groups

The December joint meeting of 100+ Women Who Care-Oneota Valley and 100+ Men Who Care: Driftless Chapter was held Tuesday in Decorah.

Members of the groups heard from three charities – Decorah Food Pantry nominated by Andy Bonnet, Winneshiek County Celebration of Life nominated by Mona Nelson, and Senior Citizens Hospitality Center – Senior Adventures nominated by Marilyn Bassford. After a member vote, Winneshiek County Celebration of Life was selected as the charity to receive the evening’s donations.

Winneshiek County Celebration of Life provides those in Winneshiek County with resources – like gas and grocery cards – while they are fighting cancer. The agency also provided funding fpr more than 800 free preventive mammograms through Winneshiek Medical Center and Gundersen-Decorah Clinic.

It is estimated that Winneshiek County Celebration of Life will receive $2,410, pending final donations to be submitted from members not in attendance at the recent joint meeting..

There is also a matching opportunity (a 50% match up to $5,000) from The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation that will be applied for.

There is still time to participate. Organizers asked that donations be dropped off with Heidi Rockweiler at Rockweiler Appliance, Kim Bonnet at Rubaiyat in Decorah, Jeff Olinger at Thrivent Financial (118 W Water St) or Chauncy Eggland at John Cline School by the end of next week. Donations should be made out directly to Winneshiek County Celebration of Life or WCCOL.
