Winneshiek County 4-H hosts Clothing, Foods and Communications Day

Winneshiek County 4-H hosted Clothing, Foods and Communications Day on June 21, at the Decorah Lutheran Church, Decorah. The day started out with clothing judging where youth participated in project areas such as Fashion Revue, Clothing Selection, $20 Challenge and new for 2023, Innovative Design.

Winneshiek County 4-H senior members grade 9-12 advancing to the 4-H Awardrobe Event at the Iowa State Fair include: Addison Schmidt, Grace Baker, Addison Wicklund, Kelsey Timp, Brynn Storhoff, and Autumn Schmitt. Clothing judges also selected recipients for Alternate State Fair including Savannah Solheim, Autumn Schmitt, Karlee Bullerman, Kelsey Timp and Brynn Storhoff.

On the morning of CFC Day, judges reviewed place settings. The exhibitors are challenged to plan a healthy, well-balanced meal, prepare a food item from their planned healthy menu and create a complementary place setting. Annabelle Baker, Lydia Fankhauser, Natalie Holthaus and Henry Schmitt received Possible State Fair ribbons. They were judged again at Static Judging Day to determine who would advance to the Iowa State Fair.

June 21 a variety of communications events were held including Extemporaneous Speaking, Share the Fun, Educational Presentations and Working Exhibits. Communication exhibitors selected for the Iowa State Fair will.

Youth who participated in Extemporaneous Speaking were asked to prepare a timed speech. Autumn Schmitt and Margret Zook will be advancing to the Iowa State Fair to present live in the 4-H Exhibits Building. Addison Wicklund and Lauren Holthaus received Alternate State Fair honors.

The following youth were selected to advance to the Iowa State Fair: Kendric Langreck, Brynn Storhoff, Caylie Adam, Karmyn Bakken, Rylee Averhoff and Anders Wicklund. Receiving Alternate State Fair honors included: Chase Adam, Justice Nelson, Addison Wicklund, Braunwyn Darrington, Autumn Schmitt and Adam and Harrison Schmitt.

Share the Fun provides 4-H members the opportunity to share their skills and talents before an audience.  Autumn Schmitt and Braunwyn Darrington, Jorgan Lee Juve and Rylee Averhoff were selected for the Iowa State Fair. Braunwyn Darrington, Autumn Schmitt, and the “Join 4-H” skit performed by the Wicklunds, Schmitts, and Bakers received Alternate State Fair honors.

Working Exhibits provide an opportunity for 4-H members to communicate, interact with and teach an audience in an informal and experiential way. Anders and Addison Wicklund, Addison and Evelyn Schmidt, Brynn Storhoff, Adam and Henry Schmitt and Jonathan Baker were selected to advance to the Iowa State Fair. Receiving Alternate State Fair honors were Savannah Phillips and Karlee Bullerman, Chase and Caylie Adam, Autumn and Harrison Schmitt, and Piper Lenth and Justice Nelson.
