Heirloom – heir·loom – /’erlo?om/ noun – A valuable object that has belonged to a family for several generations.
Most people don’t think about a recipe as a family heirloom. It’s not exactly something tangible. You can’t exactly physically hold it. However, a recipe in my family is something that is highly cherished.
This pizza dough recipe comes from my husband’s side of the family. His family is Italian, so you could say that pizza night was something that was taken seriously. Every Friday, a batch of this dough was made with love, stretched with care and consumed with laughter.
Flour may have gone flying across the kitchen, pepperoni may have fallen to the floor for the dog, and you bet your bottom dollar that the sauce simmered all dang day. One thing I know for sure, is that no piece of crust went to waste and heaps of memories were made on pizza night.
I’m sharing this recipe with you in hopes that this year you’ll start a new tradition. Instill a pizza night in your house. Let the kids pick the toppings. Heck! Get the kids involved. During these crazy times, having one day a week to sit down as a family and create these memories (and awesome pizza), is something to be cherished. And who knows it might be something that someday your kids will do with their kids too.
This recipe has been written the way that my husband‘s grandmother wrote it, so if you have any questions please
feel free to reach out!
