Supervisors continue public health discussion

County Supervisor Shirley Vermace reported on a meeting she and Supervisor Co-Chair Mark Vick attended on March 21 with Winneshiek County Public Health Administrator Krista Vanden Brink as well as a number of WinnMed officials. The group had arranged a meeting to determine whether WinnMed could begin providing services currently provided through the county’s Public Health office.

“(WinnMed) reiterated that they are a business,” Vermace said. “The only work they can do is with payors — insurance payors or Medicaid, Medicare. They do not provide home health care services for non-payors. They do charitable work when it’s a major surgery, but that’s vastly different from public health.”
