Officers investigated an accident Sept. 2 on 253rd Avenue in Winneshiek County. A vehicle driven by Bo Ruzicka, 42, of LaPorte City, was towing a camper, traveling north on 253rd Ave. A vehicle driven by 17-year-old Brock Ruzicka, also from LaPorte City, was towing a livestock trailer, and was traveling along with and behind the other vehicle. Investigators reported the two vehicles were traveling with and behind a non-contact vehicle, which was also towing a camper. Investigating officers said the roadway was quite dry and dusty, reducing visibility. As they were descending a hill and traversing a curve, they came upon two pedestrians, along with a dog. One pedestrian was on each side of the roadway, and they are listed as witnesses. The dog was on a shock collar. Both the non-contact vehicle and the first vehicle were able to slow for the pedestrians. Brock Ruzicka was unable to see well enough to sufficiently slow down and his vehicle struck the other vehicle from behind. Damages totaled $25,000 to Bo Ruzicka’s vehicle and $15,000 to Brock Ruzicka’s vehicle.

Minor injuries were reported, and the juveniles were transported to WinnMed. The driver of the vehicle was Addison Wicklund, 16, of Decorah. An estimated $10,000 in damages were reported, and the vehicle was totalled.
