Reports from the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office

Charges were pending after a Dec. 8 traffic accident near the county’s western edge. Information from the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office said emergency dispatchers received what was described as an “abandoned 911 call” around 7:15 p.m. that day. A deputy located a 2024 Can-Am Defender UTV which had crashed in the north ditch near the intersection of 220th Street and 345th Avenue in the Cresco area. The deputy found a female sitting in the ditch, whom an incident report said appeared injured. The woman said a male — identified in the sheriff’s report as 37-year-old Corbin Lynn Turner of Decorah — had been driving the UTV and left the scene to seek help after swerving to avoid a deer, striking a hazard sign and colliding with a cement culvert. The woman said she and the driver had been ejected through the windshield. The deputy also reported “full cans of beer scattered around the wreck,” and said the woman reported “they had been drinking at the bar in Protovin earlier.” Howard County authorities located the male driver a short distance away, ambulance services were called, and both subjects were eventually air-lifted to different hospitals, according to the sheriff’s report.

Cody Hageman, age 22, was booked into the Winneshiek County Jail at 6:55 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11 to serve 14 concurrent days.

All people listed may face charges and should be presumed innocent until their case is reviewed through the legal process.
