A Waukon woman was cited for failure to maintain control following an Oct. 6 collision. No injuries were reported. A report from the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office said 32-year-old Morgan Leigh Smerud of Waukon was driving a 2024 Ford Expedition along Highway 9 and slowed as another ahead of her prepared to turn onto Centennial Road — the report indicated Smerudwas somehow operating her vehicle reckless or negligent manner. The report said 48-year-old Dawn Ann Koch of Primghar was behind Smerud’s vehicle in a 2010 Ford Edge, did not see the Expedition slowing and ultimately struck Smerud’s vehicle in the rear. Damage to the Expedition was estimated at $5,500, while damage to the Edge was estimated at $4,500.
A Castalia teen was cited for failure to stop in an assured clear distance, following a collision the afternoon of Thursday, Oct. 3 north of Ossian. A report from the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office said 17-year-old Ava Rose Witt of Ossian was driving a 2014 Ford Fusion and had slowed to a stop along Highway 52 to wait for coming traffic before turning onto 155th Street. The sheriff’s report said Grace Ruth-Mae Zweibohmer was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox and collided with the rear of the Fusion. Zweibohmer complained of wrist pain and was to be taken to the hospital by a private vehicle. Witt complained of knee pain but did not seek medical treatment, according to the report. Damage to each vehicle was estimated at $4,000, and both were towed from the scene by Don’s Towing.
Tracy Leuchtenmacher, age 33, was booked into the Winneshiek County Jail at 11:50 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9 to serve 15 consecutive days.
Patricia Leeann Kiefer, age 33, of Decorag was charged with public intoxication at approximately 10:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11 in the 900 block of Montgomery Street in Decorah. She was booked into the Winneshiek County Jail at 11:55 p.m. the same day.
All people listed may face charges and should be presumed innocent until their case is reviewed through the legal process.
