Winneshiek Sheriff’s Office was called to an accident Jan. 19, at approximately 8:22 p.m. A vehicle operated by Haylie Langdon, 21, of Prairie du Chien, Wis., was westbound on Twin Springs Road near Decorah. The driver lost traction going around a curve in the 2100 block due to a combination of a completely snow/ice-covered road and operating the vehicle too fast for the road conditions. The vehicle entered the west/south ditch, striking items in the ditch, including a large rock and tree. Damages to her vehicle were estimated at $13,000. No injuries were reported.
Nicole Combs, age 38, of Cresco, was arrested and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail Jan. 20 at 7:20 p.m. after she turned herself in on an arrest warrant for possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, 1st offense; possession of controlled substance, marijuana, 1st offense; gathering where controlled substances unlawfully used other than marijuana; and child endangerment.
Crystal Soppe, 45, of Ridgeway, was arrested and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail Jan. 26 on an arrest warrant for failure to serve jail time.
Holly Terrell, 40, of Ridgeway, was arrested in Howard County and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail Jan. 26 on three arrest warrants for violation of probation.
Deputies responded to a disturbance at a residence on Middle Calmar Road Jan. 26 at 9:35 p.m. Subsequently, 25-year-old Caleb Fenske of Decorah was arrested and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail for D felony dominion/control of a firearm by a felon and simple misdemeanor consumption of alcohol in a public place.
Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office received a call of an accident on Old Stage Road Jan. 29 at 8:39 a.m. Joe Bollman, 18, of LaCrescent, Minn., was reportedly westbound on Old Stage Road. When navigating a curve, he lost control on the slick road. His vehicle entered the east ditch and rolled before coming to rest on the wheels. The vehicle rolled over a portion of a fence owned by Jason Leidhal. Damages were estimated at $25,000 to Bollman’s 2010 Ford F250 truck and $1,000 to the fence line.
Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant Feb. 1 at approximately midnight at a residence on Dogwood Road. As a result of the search, Valentin L. Munoz, 35, of Decorah, was charged with serious misdemeanor possession of controlled substance (methamphetamine) and simple misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Munoz was booked into the Winneshiek County Jail. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Decorah Police Department with the execution of the warrant. This case remains under investigation, with additional search warrants, arrests and charges pending.
William Hruska Jr., 42, of West Union, was transported from the Fayette County Jail Jan. 31 and was arrested and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail on an arrest warrant for attempted burglary, third degree – non vehicle, D felony burglary in the third degree – non vehicle, and possession of burglary tools. These charges were from an incident at 170th Street in Calmar on Nov. 20, 2023.
Caleb Fenske, 25, of Decorah, was arrested Jan. 30 at 10:28 a.m. on an arrest warrant for violation of parole and remains in the Winneshiek County Jail.
Elijah Gallegos, 24, of Decorah, was arrested Feb. 1 on an arrest warrant for violation of probation and remains in the Winneshiek County Jail.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office responded to a driving complaint Dec. 30, 2023, of a vehicle driving erratically and had struck another vehicle at highway speeds on Highway 52 between Ossian and Calmar. The striking vehicle did not stop and continued. Deputies located the vehicle, on Highway 52, north of Calmar and attempted to make a traffic stop. The vehicle fled from deputies which led to a pursuit. The vehicle eventually went westbound on Highway 9. With the assistance of the Howard County Sheriff’s Office and Cresco Police Department, stop sticks were deployed. The vehicle continued and was later located unoccupied, on fire and disabled with tire damage on a gravel road north of Kendallville. A short time later a deputy located registered owner, Kaden Brown, 18, of Castalia, walking on the gravel road. Subsequently, Brown was arrested and transported to the Winneshiek County Jail for D felony eluding, reckless driving and speeding. On Feb. 2, Brown was additionally charged with operating while under the influence (methamphetamine) after DCI lab results were received. The Howard County Sheriff’s Office, Cresco Police Department and Harmony Fire Department assisted the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office.
