After a traffic stop was initiated in Calmar on Jan. 7 at 5:47 p.m., Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Deputies obtained and executed search warrants of a vehicle and a driver’s residence. Jesse Fischer, 50, of Fort Atkinson, was arrested and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail for D felony, controlled substance violation – marijuana, D felony failure to affix a drug stamp, serious misdemeanor possession of controlled substance 2nd offense – marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license suspended. This case remains open and active with additional charges pending.
Noah Lund, 23, of Canton, Minn., was cited for failure to maintain control following an accident on the. North Winn Road Jan. 8 at 5:23 a.m. According to the report, a single vehicle accident was reported by a third party on the North Winn Road, north of Decorah. The report stated the driver was being transported to the Winneshiek Medical Center emergency room by private vehicle. Once officers arrived, a blue 2005 Chevrolet Impala was resting in the west ditch with the front of the car facing south. Beer cans were observed through a back window of the vehicle. Markings at the scene indicated the vehicle was northbound, left the roadway, over-corrected and spun out, sliding into the ditch sideways and rolling over onto the roof. Damages totaled $8,000 to the vehicle.
Deborah Myhre, 68, of Decorah, was cited for failure to yield upon making a left turn following an accident on Jan. 5 on Old Stage Road. Myhre was reportedly traveling east on Old Stage Road and a vehicle driven by 35-year-old Austin Bohr of Waukon was traveling west. Myhre attempted to turn into a drive at 1684 Old Stage Road, and turned in front of Bohr’s oncoming vehicle. Damages totaled $8,000 to the Bohr vehicle and $15,000 to the Myhre vehicle.
Jason Bjork, 52, of Decorah, was cited for failure to yield upon making a left turn following an accident on Old Stage Road on Jan. 6 at 8:04 a.m. Bjork’s vehicle was in a turn lane near the Walmart parking lot when he turned in front of a southbound vehicle driven by Laine Henning, age 58, of Decorah. $5,000 in damages to Henning’s vehicle and $8,000 to Bjork’s vehicle.

Decorah Police Department and Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Walmart on Jan. 7 for a report of shoplifting. A male subject later identified at 39-year-old Seth Pash of Decorah, was located at Casey’s General Store. Pash was placed under arrest for theft in the 5th degree, public intoxication and consumption of alcohol in a public place.
Decorah Police responded to a call of a vehicle in a south ditch near the Decorah Municipal Airport on Highway 9 Wednesday, Jan. 11. After a brief investigation, the driver of the Jeep, 72-year-old Larry Zahasky of Decorah, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.
Decorah Police initiated a traffic stop Jan. 16 at midnight on Highway 9 near Ridgewood Road. After investigation, Michael Malone, 50, of Illinois, was charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense.
