Reports from the Decorah Police Department

The Decorah Police Department was dispatched to the Decorah Walmart on Friday, Feb. 7 for a report of a male subject who had switched ticket prices on multiple items. The suspect was identified as 21-year-old Aaron Taylor Hernandez of Chico, California. Hernandez was charged with fifth-degree theft, and officers learned Henandez had committed similar acts during six previous visits to Walmart. He was additionally charged with fourth-degree theft for the previous incidents.

A Postville man was cited for failure to maintain control after an incident the night of Friday, Feb. 7. Information from the Decorah Police Department said 42-year-old Vanel Kerlegrand of Postville was traveling east on Highway 9 when his vehicle left the roadway, moving onto the south shoulder. He reentered the highway but lost control before entering the westbound lane of traffic, striking the passenger side of a truck driven by 26-year-old Brooke Price of Patch Grove, Wisconsin. Kerlegrand and his passenger were taken to the WinnMed emergency room by WinnMed ambulance for an assessment. The Decorah Police Department was assisted on scene by WinnMed ambulance, Decorah Fire Department, Don’s Towing Sevice and the Iowa Department of Transportation.

Guadalupe Espinosa III, age 19, of Robstown, Texas, was booked into the Winneshiek County Jail at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 16 on the charge of disorderly conduct/fighting/violent behavior — first offense. A criminal complaint filed against Espinosa said he was involved in a verbal dispute which turned physical at approximately 12:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 16 at Your Place in Decorah. Espinosa “did not want charges on the other two males in the altercation,” according to the complaint. Court documents show he was also charged with public intoxication.

Izaiah Jordan Domenget, age 26, of Lacrosse, Wisconsin, was charged with domestic abuse/assault at approximately 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17 inside the Miller Hall dormitory on Luther College’s campus. A criminal complaint said Domenget had been drinking and an argument took place. The complaint said Domenget then made comments indicating he might harm himself, and the victim attempted to prevent him from leaving. A physical altercation took place, and Domenget took the victim’s phone “when she attempted to call either Domenget’s mother or law enforcement, whoever would answer.” Domenget was booked into the Winneshiek County Jail at 2:30 p.m. the same day.

Raymond Delagarza, age 41, of Decorah was booked into the Winneshiek County Jail at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13 on two counts of domestic abuse/assault, two counts of first-degree harassment, possession of methamphetamine — first offense — and possession of marijuana — first offense. Criminal complaints said the Decorah Police Department received two separate reports last week, saying Delagarza had physically abused the victim in January and held her against her will on at least two occassions. Police were shown electronic communications corroborating the claims, including a text from Delagarza in which he threatened to kill the victim. Police searched Delagarza’s residence and discovered a white crystal substance and a vape cartridge containing THC. Court filings said Delagarza admitted to using methamphetamine and knowing the vape cartridge contained THC, but he claimed the victim’s injuries “were from sexual intercourse.” He was booked into the Winneshiek County Jail at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17.

All people listed may face charges and should be presumed innocent until their case is reviewed through the legal process.
