Nature has many sensory indicators of seasonal change. Most indicators are visual. A few, like the music of migrating birds, are auditory. Smell and taste are more difficult to assess. But, the smell and taste of spring and fall are undeniable.

Rissman noted that the size of the tanks makes a difference when trucking up to 9,000 gallons of fuel to the shops, with smaller tanks making for more frequent stops and more miles in the contract. The Freeport shop currently has two underground tanks for fuel, but the other county road shops have 2,000 gallon diesel tanks.

Hageman fundraiser comes to fruition for area fire departments

A tractor accident last fall that saw the rescue of Ossian’s Kyle Hageman from a turnover on Clay Hill Road turned into a mission for his family to support area fire departments. Their fundraiser to make good of a bad situation raised $60,000 for much-needed rescue equipment to ensure the county’s emergency personnel have the tools they need to ensure better outcomes from what could be tragic accidents.
