Northern Lights fall concert scheduled Nov. 19

The Northern Lights Women’s Chorus will present its fall concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at Decorah Lutheran Church. The 50-member ensemble, composed of singers from Decorah and surrounding communities, will perform a variety of beautiful choral music with the theme “The Love of Bare November Days.”

Polls across Iowa have closed, and the results of the Nov. 7 election are being tabulated. In Decorah, the city and school board election resulted in some familiar elected officials as well as some new faces. Winneshiek County Auditor Ben Steines said this election was a bit different, with more write-in candidates on the ballots than ever before. Steines said names of the write-in candidates will not be released as part of the initial election results.

“I was a young kid and thought I knew the world,” he said with a chuckle. “I had good grades, could have made the honor roll, just didn’t want to. After leavin’ school, I turned 17, and a week later, I got off the bus in San Diego, and there was a Chief Petty Officer usin’ cuss words I didn’t even know, and I thought I knew’em all.”

Helping Services for Youth & Families awarded funding to expand youth mentoring
