The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship today provided an update on the continually evolving situation regarding the spread of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in dairy cattle and poultry flocks in other states, strongly encouraged both dairy farmers and poultry producers to heighten their biosecurity protocols and practices, and reminded consumers that pasteurized milk and dairy products are safe to enjoy.

Mindy Jones dubbed ‘habitual violator’ by sentencing judge, now behind bars in Minnesota prison

At the sentencing, Jones’ lawyer, Assistant Public Defender Graham Henry, shared a lengthy plea with the court, “I think it’s important for the court to know a little bit about Miss Jones as (the court is) here now to sentence her for something terrible … something that has had an impact on many people’s lives, is still having an impact, and likely will have an impact in the long term.”
School district surveys residents about improving aging facility

Information detailed on the survey website explains much of the history of the proposal. The renovation of John Cline School was estimated at approximately $9 million but would not meet the needs of the district. New construction is estimated at approximately $13 million.

Decorah Envirothon teams successful at recent contest

Decorah High School was well represented at the regional Envirothon competition. A toal of 45 DHS students (nine teams of five) recently took the regional test to qualify for the state competition. Two teams will represent Decorah at state, including last year’s defending state champions Team DNR: Lucas Arendt, Connor Evelsizer, Gabriel Hiner, Anders Lovstuen, and Aiden Nalean Carlson. The other team to represent Decorah at state will be Team Skabush: Riley Berns, Carson Bohner, Alex McGohan, Nathan Swarbrick, and Henry Weis.
