Harpers Ferry Area Heritage Society hosts pop-up museum for Memorial Day

The museum will include items from the collection of the late Lois Robinson, who collected various items dealing with the history of Allamakee County, including photographs and documents. Her daughters, Regina Manning and Patty Manning, inherited their mother’s collection will share these pieces of Allamakee County’s history with all.

Luther College graduating senior Matilda Koeller received the college’s Elizabeth A. and Paul G. Jenson Medal for the class of 2024. The announcement was made during the commencement ceremony Sunday, May 19.
Law enforcement seat belt campaign under way

The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) is partnering with law enforcement across Iowa to support the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Click It, Don’t Risk It high-visibility enforcement effort. The national seat belt campaign, which coincides with the Memorial Day holiday, is May 20-June 2, 2024.
Library hosts June book discussions

Decorah Public Library staff will host five book discussions in June. The groups are open to the public and newcomers are encouraged to attend. Anyone interested should call the library at 382-3717 to learn more or to reserve a book. Email ktorresdal@decorahlibrary.org to be added to any of the five groups’ email distribution lists. Funds for multiple copy sets were provided by Friends of Decorah Public Library.
Decorah’s 175th celebration June 15

The City of Decorah will commemorate the town’s 175th Anniversary – the Dodransbicentennial – Saturday, June 15.
The public is invited to a short program at 10 a.m. at Vesterheim Commons on Water Street on the morning of the 15th. Visits to historic locations around the community are encouraged, and special tours, events and family activities are planned.

The end goal for the building is to house 10 residential apartments on the second floor, and the 8,600 sq. ft. main level will be used as commercial space. According to Koester, apartments will include two studio apartments, five one-bedroom units, and three two-bedroom units, ranging from 550 to 1,100 sq. ft. in size.
