Mom stood at the bottom of the stairs in the narrow hallway. The darkness was cut by the yellow light cascading onto her from the room beyond. The kids had been put to bed after a long, stressful day and Mom was glad that the house was finally quiet. The hallway upstairs matched the dark of the hallway downstairs and not a sound could be heard.

It was midnight, November 30th. I was lying on the couch, unable to sleep, when out of the corner of my eye I saw a dark hazy shadow of a woman in a long flowing dress floating through the master bedroom wall into the room I was in.

Edgar walked through his front door at exactly half past two. However, for the life of him, he couldn’t remember how he got there. He also couldn’t remember what he had done that morning, but that didn’t matter. Edgar had retired eight months earlier and nowadays things like what he had done or what needed to be done didn’t matter as much.
