Decorah Community Schools will continue looking for an athletic conference after Iowa Department of Education Director McKenzie Snow affirmed the Upper Iowa Conference decision to deny Decorah High School’s request to join the conference. After mediation between the Decorah School District and Upper Iowa Conference failed, the Iowa Department of Education accepted the mediators’ recommendation to deny Decorah’s request.

Seventy-seven-year-old John Juve of Decorah answered Uncle Sam’s call to Vietnam on Nov. 27, 1967, and by May of 1968, as one of the newer members of the United States Army’s 25th Infantry Division, he was searching the Viet Cong’s famous underground tunnels at Cu Chi — 30 miles north of Saigon — with nothing but a pistol and a flashlight.

Auditor releases unofficial 2024 General Election results

Voter turnout was high in the 2024 General Election in Winneshiek County, with 12,075 ballots cast, according to unofficial results released Tuesday night from Winneshiek County Auditor Ben Steines. There are 15,194 registered voters in the county. Absentee ballots cast in Tuesday’s election totaled 7,381.
