OVCO encouraging costumes at upcoming Movie Pops concert

The Oneota Valley Community Orchestra is encouraging audience members to attend the orchestra’s next performance in costume. The orchestra, under the baton of music director Matthew Cody, will present a Movie Pops concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025 in the Decorah High School Auditorium. Those attending the program are encouraged to dress up as a character from one of the classic Hollywood science fiction movies to hear the orchestra perform the soundtracks from the well-known films — including music by block-buster film composers like John Williams. The Movie Pops program will include Williams’s beloved E.T Flying Theme and will conclude with his iconic Star Wars Suite. Oneota Valley Community Orchestra will play another famous movie score, Star Trek Into Darkness by Micheal Giacchino. Continuing with the space theme, the orchestra will also present Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner’s atmospheric Suite from Alien, and James Horner’s majestic Apollo 13 Suite.

Admission for the concert will be $15 for adults, $8 for students (K-5) and free for children 5 and younger. Tickets are available in advance on Eventbrite at eventbrite.com/e/ovco-movie-pops-concert-tickets-1112268628409. Tickets will also be available at the door.
