The Northern Lights Women’s Chorus will present its spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at Decorah Lutheran Church. The 48-member ensemble, composed of singers from Decorah and surrounding communities, will perform a variety of beautiful choral music with the theme “Weep No More.”
The program’s wide-ranging musical selections feature the joyous spiritual “John Saw Duh Numbuh,” an upbeat arrangement using the familiar lyrics of “Amazing Grace” called “How Sweet the Sound,” and a lyrical blend of “Simple Gifts” and Dvorak’s “Going Home” called “The Journey.” Audience members will recognize the popular tunes “Route 66,” “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” and the fun “Grandma’s Feather Bed.” Joyful songs of love and hope include “Fire, Fire My Heart,” “Let Us Dance, Let Us Sing,” G.F. Handel’s “Happy We,” and Mozart’s “Viva!” John Keats’ poetry provides the lovely emotional inspiration for “Weep No More.” The concert will conclude with a jubilant and optimistic welcome to spring titled “Sing Out, My Soul.”
Northern Lights’ artistic director is Rachael Buresh, and Mary Beth Bouska serves as collaborative pianist. Intermission music will be provided by Claiborne Treble Singers from Decorah High School, directed by Jason Rausch. A freewill offering will be taken, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the Decorah Kids Lunch Club.
Upon entering the church, audience members are encouraged to scan a displayed QR code from their smart phones to access program details, which will also be projected on video screens. A limited number of printed programs will be available.
Northern Lights would like to thank The Depot Outlet for a major grant to support its 2023-24 season, as well as the many businesses and individuals that contributed to its fall fund drive.
