The Northern Lights Women’s Chorus will present its spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 16 at Decorah Lutheran Church.
The 48-member ensemble, composed of singers from Decorah and surrounding communities, will perform a variety of beautiful choral music centered on the theme of “Illuminating Love.”
Love songs will include “On My Own” from Les Misérables; “Orange Colored Sky” a 1950 jazz standard; “Red, Red Rose” and two Irish folk songs: “Bandyrowe” and “Red is the Rose.” Upbeat tempos and fun lyrics will be featured in “The Lobster Quadrille” with words from “Alice in Wonderland”; a Norwegian folk song “Pål På Haugen” (Paul and His Chickens); and “The Rhythm of Life” from “Sweet Charity.” The program also includes a powerful new song “By Night” by Iowa composer Elaine Hagenberg; and two pieces that celebrate God’s love for us: “God of Wonders” by Joseph M. Martin and “Shalom” by Dan Forrest.
Guest musicians include soprano soloist Rachel Storlie, providing intermission music; cellist Craig Hultgren; and violinist Julia Wharton. Northern Lights’ artistic director is Rachael Buresh, and Mary Beth Bouska serves as collaborative pianist. An intermission freewill offering will be taken, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to local nonprofit organizations.
Northern Lights would like to thank The Depot Outlet for a major grant to support its 2022-23 season, as well as the 25 other businesses and individuals contributing to its fall fund drive.
