Kueny accepts Winneshiek County Engineer post

The Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors met in special session Dec. 5, at 9 a.m. to extend an employment offer and contract to Michael Kueny, PE (Project Engineer), as Winneshiek County Engineer.

Later that same day, he accepted the offer and signed the contract to serve in the position starting Dec. 11, 2023 through June 30, 2025. During the early months of 2025 the Board will work with Kueny to determine whether to renew the contract and negotiate contract terms after the end of the current contract.

In a release from Winneshiek County Auditor Ben Steines, he noted that Iowa law sets the maximum contract time for a County Engineer at three years, so all counties negotiate contract renewals for County Engineers on a regular basis.

The Board and Kueny will have a couple of high priority items of business to address as soon as possible: submitting plans to the DOT for construction projects planned for the summer of 2024 and hiring an Assistant Engineer, a position which has also been vacant for several months.
