The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office recently hosted a K-9 training at the Decorah Fire Department’s Training Center near Freeport. The training was instructed by master trainer, Trace Erickson.

The following agencies/K9 handlers attended: Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office – Lieutenant Steven Nesvik; Houston County Sheriff’s Office (Minnesota) – Lieutenant Trace Erickson; West Union Police Department – Officer Jesse Stanbrough; Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office – Deputy Ross Kolsrud; Winona County Sheriff’s Office (Minnesota) – Deputy Adam Carlson; Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (Minnesota) –  Deputy Bob Peper.

Lieutenant Steve Nesvik says, “We try to get together once a month with other K-9 units to train the basic drug odors in vehicles, buildings and open areas. I addition, we train on article recovery and tracking. We like to find different areas to train so the dog gets exposed to new environments. We appreciate the county’s continued support of this countywide resource.”
