Inspire(d) Media of Decorah was recently featured on the national broadcast of Marketplace (Business News) on National Public Radio (NPR).

The “My Economy” segment aired on Friday, December 30, 2022, and featured Aryn Henning Nichols and Benji Nichols, the story of how they met and started Inspire(d), and some of the challenges they’ve faced in their 15 years of business together. Inspire(d) co-owner Benji Nichols is a longtime listener of Marketplace, and had submitted their story to the show earlier in 2022.

“It was truly exciting just to connect with the producers at Marketplace. After a couple of calls we recorded a conversation – but there were no guarantees,” Benji Nichols says. “Then right after Christmas, we got a call that the segment was slated to air on the last Friday show of the year. It was absolutely surreal to hear us on a national broadcast, and a real honor to share our story from rural Iowa.”

According to www.marketplace.org, “My Economy tells the story of the new economic normal through the eyes of people trying to make it, because we know the only numbers that really matter are the ones in your economy.”

Marketplace is part of American Public Media, one of the largest producers of public radio programming in the world. The Marketplace broadcast portfolio is heard by more than 12 million listeners each week on more than 800 public radio stations nationwide.

And while Aryn Henning Nichols says she gets a little nervous about being the one interviewed, she was excited to see Inspire(d) shared on a larger platform.

“Their producer did a great job editing our 30-minute conversation down to just over three minutes of airtime,” Aryn Henning Nichols says. “It was such a cool experience, and we feel so fortunate to continue sharing our ‘experiment in positive news’ with NPR’s national audience.”
