Housing policy discussion here Nov. 2

The City of Decorah will host a special housing discussion Nov. 2 at 5:45 p.m. at Impact Coffee’s upstairs venue.

Luke Seaberg, Community and Economic Development Field Specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, will present a short educational program on how land use policies and planning at the local and state level can impact a city’s ability to generate investment in new and existing housing, as well as how those policies can also affect housing affordability and accessibility. The discussion will feature examples from other communities in Iowa and across the United States that have wrestled with this topic and will provide an opportunity for attendees to reflect on how Decorah might approach its own housing challenges.

The program is open to the public, and it will be particularly helpful for elected and appointed officials, city staff, media, developers, and others directly involved in addressing the area’s housing supply issues. The one-hour presentation will be followed by an opportunity for audience questions.

Audience members are welcome to remain afterward for additional conversation. The City of Decorah is grateful to Impact Coffee for their generosity in providing an inviting venue for the event.

The Nov. 2 program is part of the City’s participation in the Rural Housing Readiness Assessment Program and is supported, in part, by a grant from the Iowa State University Extension Office. Contact Decorah City Manager Travis Goedken for further information.
