By Denise Lana,
An early morning fire today, Monday, August 7, in Waucoma gutted the Waucoma Tire Company building. The large building, located at 331 3rd Street NW, was part of the Lynch Family Companies, and according to Lynch representative Melissa Blockhus, was built in 1980. Blockhus, who also serves with the Lynch insurance and risk management department, did not have any details about the cause of the fire.
“We are in the early hours of investigation, and we don’t have any answers yet,” she shared.
According to Blockhus, Someone saw smoke and flames coming from the vents of the building around 5:50am this morning and called 911. Additionally, she said that the fire, which took around 5 hours to extinguish, was deftly managed by a trio of fire departments, including St. Lucas, Lawler, and Waucoma fire departments. “We can’t thank them enough, they are all volunteers,” Blockhus expressed.
She continued, “No-one was hurt and the firemen were able to get some tools and equipment and tires out of the building and they saved as much as they could. With their quick response, they got the fire out in the area of the oil drums, so it could have been way worse.”
Although the investigation is just starting, Blockhus confirmed that the building will be a total loss.
