A Fort Atkinson man has died following a tractor versus train accident in southern Winneshiek County. The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office received a call at approximately 2:32 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, advising of the accident at the intersection of Highway 24 and 128th Street between Fort Atkinson and Jackson Junction.
The accident resulted in a fatal injury, and is under investigation by the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office and Canadian Pacific Railway.
Additional details were released Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 8.
According to the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office report, local dispatch received multiple 911 calls regarding the accident at 2:32 p.m., and officers arrived at the scene at 2:46 p.m.
Several First Responders and firefighters were already on scene performing aid.
The investigating officer reported a tractor driven by 60-year-old Carl Kuhn of Fort Atkinson was hauling an empty grain wagon, traveling west on 128th Street crossing Highway 24. The tractor collided with an oncoming train at the crossing. Kuhn died at the scene.

This is my father in law and we have not seen any crash photos is there a way to please take this down so myself, his wife and mother cannot have this etched in our minds? Please and thank you. The article is great just not the picture
Tasteless, reporting families of the victim might not want the photo of the tractor of the deceased posted online for the world to see they are grieving this tragic accident. Shame on you. A respected man of this community died in a senseless accident in an obstructed train crossing and you post a picture.
