Explore the Winneshiek Wild with Driftless Safari

Driftless Safari is a long-term self-paced scavenger hunt covering all of Winneshiek County and running from Memorial Day weekend through Halloween each year. The program is free and open to anyone who loves to explore and wants to experience some of the special outdoor places of Winneshiek County. The program started in 2011 and has since been a continuing tradition of fun and exploration for all ages.

In celebration of the 65th anniversary of Winneshiek County Conservation, this year’s guide packet features a Bucket List of “65 Things to Do in Winneshiek County.” Winneshiek County Conservation challenges people to complete as many as possible in 2023.

To participate in Driftless Safari, visit any Winneshiek County public library or the Decorah Area Visitor’s Center at 507 West Water Street in Decorah, during their operating hours to pick up a free guide packet. Materials are available now.

Winneshiek County public libraries include Calmar Public Library (101 S. Washington Street), Decorah Public Library (202 Winnebago Street), Fort Atkinson Public Library (302 3rd Street NW), Ossian Public Library (123 West Main Street), and Spillville Public Library (201 Oak Street).

Register for Driftless Safari at www.driftless-safari.org and follow the maps, guide and other information to discover the treasures of Winneshiek County. This year, document and share adventures on the Driftless Safari as they can be shared in photo and film and submitted to win prizes.
