Red-Roxy Quilt Co. of Decorah is featured in the Spring/Summer 2021 issue of Better Homes & Gardens Quilt Sampler magazine. The issue was available on newsstands Friday, May 14. Red-Roxy Quilt Co. is owned by mother-daughter duo Roxanne (Roxie) Schnitzler and Jessica Rediske.
Roxie Schnitzler’s earliest quilting memories are of small paper piecing projects. In high school she sewed anything from shirts to her prom dress and a lined linen coat as her senior project. Today she is a machine embroidery enthusiast; she likes to push the envelope where embroidery is involved. “I sew anything that has cats on it! Most of the quilts I make contain machine embroidery somewhere,” said Schnitzler.
Growing up Jessica was (pretty much) forced into the 4-H sewing category by the clothing superintendent (aka her mother), for the Winneshiek County Fair. Jess is a farm girl at heart and didn’t like summer projects that kept her inside. It wasn’t until the opportunity to purchase the quilt shop came up that she rekindled that sewing seed that was planted in her at a young age. “Now I can say I enjoy the relaxation of sewing and piecing, but I’m a ‘one-and-done.’ I don’t like to make two things the same.” said Rediske. She has followed in her mother’s footsteps and has a passion for machine embroidery.
Each shop to be featured in Quilt Sampler designed and created an original quilt, which will be published with complete instructions, along with the shop profile. The Red-Roxy Quilt Co. quilt was designed by Megan Pitz of Canoe Ridge Creations and was finished with custom quilting from Longarm Quilting Inspirations owner Carla Berst. Quilt kits will be available online and in-store this spring.
Competition to be included in Quilt Sampler is high – nearly 3,000 quilt shops were eligible to apply for this year’s honor. To apply, quilt shop owners submit a detailed application on their history, business promotions, charitable work, teaching schedules, and design philosophies. A panel of quilt experts, spearheaded by the American Patchwork & Quilting staff, reviews the applications to select the featured shops.
Red-Roxy Quilt Co. customers may participate in in-house classes, sew along events, block of the month clubs and retreat opportunities. The shop contains samples with coordinating project kits for all levels of quilters. Red-Roxy Quilt Co. connects with customers across the United States by hosting a weekly Facebook Live showcasing what’s new around the shop, upcoming classes and events and the popular Fabric Frenzy.
Red-Roxy Quilt Co. is a full-service quilt shop featuring BERNINA sewing and embroidery machines with sales and service staff available in-house. The shop has been owned by the mother-daughter duo since 2013 and features over 3,000 fabric bolts as well as patterns, threads and notions. It is located at 415 W. Water Street.
