The North Alley project, which has been in talks for more than a decade, is focused on updating the area north of Water Street to be more efficient, safe and pedestrian friendly. It includes the potential rebuilding of John Cline Elementary School, moving athletic fields and recycling bins and overhauling Heivly and Claiborne Streets as well as the North Alley parking lot.  Driftless Multimedia reporter Denise Lana talked with city staff and council members and spoke with attendees. Although met with cautious optimism, residents’ concerns regarding the project spanned from parking issues and relocation of athletic fields and the farmer’s market, to flood worries and elementary and high school traffic safety.  Full story with pictures, timelines, and interviews will be in the Wednesday, Dec. 28, issue of the Public Opinion.
