County Democrats hold convention

Winneshiek County Democrats held the County Convention Saturday, March 26.

Winneshiek County Democrats conducted their County Convention on Saturday, March 26, and approved the county platform and elected seven delegates to the District Convention.

Attendees had the opportunity to meet and talk with Democratic candidates running for office.

Iowa 2nd District candidate Liz Mathis spoke to the attendees and answered questions. Among the local candidates in attendance were Tim Lecander (Iowa House of Representatives) and Joe Pinter (District 5 County Supervisor). Winneshiek County Democrats Chair, Carl Haakensted, spoke on behalf of candidate Matt Spencer (District 1 County Supervisor) and emphasized that he has been in contact with individuals interested in running for District 2 County Supervisor. The press released stated that local Democrats should expect a District 2 candidate nomination via a reconvened county convention after the June primary election. Candidate discussions and the county platform emphasized passing common-sense policies for the economy, childcare, and technology that put money back in the pockets of hard-working, middle-class families and support individuals in Northeast Iowa.
