A civil suit against State Farm Insurance filed by Mindy Jones of Waterloo was dismissed Friday, July 7, by the Allamakee County Court. Jones filed the civil suit for claim of non-payment in February of this year against the insurer of her building housing her Tin, Rust and Harmony business that burned, along with a neighboring business, in a devastating fire Feb. 13, 2022. Jones was charged with Arson first degree, a B felony, and animal abuse on March 11.
After Jones’ lawyer in the civil suit withdrew as counsel Feb. 21, Jones failed to e-register to continue the case in April, and State Farm Insurance initiated a motion for summary judgement in the case on June 14. This summary judgement was supported by documentation from authorities, a statement of undisputed facts from the arson charge, and an affidavit from Patrick Yates, Special Investigation Unit Claim Specialist at State Farm Insurance. The arson charge was initiated when investigators determined the fire was intentionally set at two different locations also led to the death of a dog in the building. Jones has entered a not guilty plea.
Jones’ trial in Allamakee County for the Arson first degree charge, et al, is scheduled for Oct. 4.
