Cast announced for ‘Dr. Doolittle the Musical’

Remember Doctor Dooittle, the doctor who can talk to animals and uses their perspective to understand the world of humans?
New Minowa Players will bring that story of Doctor Dolittle, the musical, to Decorah. It will be shown at the NMP theater at 906 South Mill Street on the last two weekends in January. Evening shows will be at 7 p.m. on Jan. 16, 17, 18, 24, and 25. There will be two matinees: one on Jan. 19 at 2 pm and one on Jan. 25 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are already available and would make an excellent holiday gift or stocking stuffer. They can be purchased online at www.newminowaplayers.ludus.com or in person at Oneota Community Co-op.
Directors said Doctor Dolittle is a heart-warming musical, ideal for children; their parents, grandparents, neighbors, and friends; and anyone young at heart. With music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse, Doctor Dolittle is based on the 1967 movie of the same name and the children’s stories by Hugh Lofting about the adventures of a medical doctor who has exceptional empathy for others and a deep love for animals. Instead of treating human patients, he learns to speak the language of animals and treats them as his patients.
The story starts in the small English village of Puddleby-on-the-Marsh and takes the audience on a journey to the far corners of the world. Doctor Dolittle is falsely accused of murder, but is found innocent. He and his animal friends travel across the world and have some exciting adventures along the way. Their ultimate goal is to find the Great Pink Sea Snail, who is the oldest and wisest creature on Earth and holds the secret of life.
Rehearsals for the show are under way. Director Sheryl Scheffert said she is pleased with the talented actors making up the cast.
